If you can buy trash, You can pay for Gas

A recent ride through a middle class neighborhood inspired the title above, and the thoughts below. First, I must say, that I am not trying to ruin anyone's halloween celebration. I definitely enjoy some aspects of halloween, namely, the bite size candy. It just seems to me that the commercial aspect of halloween is larger than ever. Today, halloween is no longer a day for children but a night of no inhibition for adults. People are spending a ton of money on a very insignificant holiday. Whatever happened to traditional (??) Halloween celebrations like carving a pumpkin, trick or treating, having a sleepover and telling ghost stories? Today, you can purchase white, orange, and multicolored pumpkins, orange lights, strobe lights, inflatable monsters, and other tacky yard decorations. I am not even going to mention the skanky costumes I have seen for sale. Okay, here's my beef... in light of recent events (mother nature and war) energy prices have risen considerably, thus increasing the number of not-so-nice calls to my office demanding my boss do something about the increase in energy prices. I think it is safe to assume that the individuals most affected by the increase in energy prices are the ones buying into the commercialization of halloween. Therefore if they can afford to purchase halloween paraphernalia to showcase their "Griswold Halloween" light display than they should not be calling my office complaining that they cannot afford to buy gas, pay their electric bill, etc.
