I hope everyone enjoyed their New Year's. I had a great time in Washington DC and Manassas, VA. My friends John and Erin are now married and honeymooning in Jamaica. I met up with my friend Sharyn in PA on thursday morning and there our adventures began. We arrived in Manassas thursday afternoon and attempted to check into our hotel room. They gave us hard time, but hey, we had honest faces and the old man behind the counter eventually got us squared away. The rooms were kind of gross, but they were the cheapest ones close to Erin's home. I guess they were more old than gross. I definitely prefer new hotels to old inns. Anyway we started the night off right with a bachelorette party that included a stretched limo, dave and busters, pedicures and downtown DC. Unfortunately, it ended on a bad note...our room was directly across from a railroad crossing. All night we thought a train was going to come through our room.
We spent friday sightseeing in DC. We stopped off at the newly remodeled National Archives and viewed the Dec. of Independence, Bill of Rights, Constitution, and the Articles of Confederation. They have changed things around quite a bit since they reopened. You no longer have to keep moving but are allowed to take your time and look at all the documents. After the archives, we headed down to the Old Post office to take a gander of DC from the clock tower. On our way we ran into a homeless man who decided to relieve himself right in front of us. Talk about Shock and Ugh. Shar and I couldn't get away from him fast enough. We also visited the White House (shar didn't believe me that they had guns on the roof, so i had to show her to prove it to her) and then visited the National Christmas Tree, plus other great DC spots.
We then had to attend the rehearsal and dinner. The rehearsal dinner was huge and packed. John invited his whole family so in all there were around 70 people crowded into the back room of a little greek restaurant. The food was so good and it was great to see old friends from college. On Saturday, we spent the day with Erin and kept her calm. I can't believe that a wedding that has been planned for a year could have so many crises in one day! But everything worked out and they got married. The church was beautiful. She had gotten some ideas from Jessica Simpson's wedding.
On Sunday, Shar and I went to Fairfax Baptist Temple to visit friends and then headed home. I need to mention that the weather was great while we were in DC and VA. Everyday it was in the '60s and mostly sunny. Then i come home and it is 15 degrees out and snowing. Ugh!!!
